YKI Test Finland. Exam Structure And Learning Materials For The Test.

YKI or Yleiset kielitutkinnot, the official Finnish National Certificates of Language Proficiency in FINLAND ,governed by Finnish National Board of Education organizes test in  9 different languages throughout the year in Finland( ENGLISH - FINNISH - FRENCH - GERMAN - ITALIAN - RUSSIAN - SAAMI - SPANISH - SWEDISH). YKI testi is the only national level renowned language proficiency test intended to measure the functional language proficiency of adults in Finland.. Basically, YKI testi are organized 4 times a year (JANUARY, APRIL, AUGUST, NOVEMBER) in almost all major cities of FINLAND on the same day. Registration opens 1-2 months before the test dates. To secure your places in HELSINKI and nearby test centres you have to act promptly  on the registration opening dates.
YKI testi in FINNISH is mandatory for all those immigrants who seeks to have a Finnish National Citizenship. YKI testi is your language proficiency certificate which broadens your employment opportunities as you officially possess the certificate of proficiency in Finnish Language. If you are planning for ammattikoulu in Finnish ,YKI testi can replace your entrance exam too, i;e; you do not need to attend any entrance test. In a summary,  you can use YKI certificate to demonstrate your language skills at required premises.
YKI tests are always held on SATURDAYS between 10-5pm. The test is structured in 4 different components:
  1. LISTENING COMPREHENSION:  You will note your answer by listening to radio or audio devices  in this section. Interviews, Conversation, News, Announcement, etc are some stereotypes
  2. SPEAKING COMPREHENSION:  You have to speak about certain topic which you are assigned. Describing your vacation, Market, Explaining Picture, etc are this kinda stereotypes.
  3. WRITING COMPREHENSION:  This section is similar like essay writing in English. You will be assigned a certain topic to demonstrate your writing skills. Replying a letter, Vacation Stories, Job application, Education, etc are some stereotypes.
  4. READING COMPREHENSION: This section is a grammatical section, answering the text reading the contents, verb type, etc are to be noticed in this section.
YKI testi has three levels .
  1. Basic Level (€100) (Level 1-2)
  2. Intermediate Level (€123) (Level 3-4)
  3. Advanced Level (€160) (Level 5-6)
Note: The fees are paid directly to the test centres. You will get the banking information from the test centres after you have been confirmed as en examinee to the test. You have to register for the intermediate level.
Test performances are assessed using a 6-step scale of skill levels, which is in line with the scale* used in the Common European Framework of Reference for language learning, teaching and assessment developed by the Council of Europe.

The eligibility to apply for a FNP(Finnish National Passport)  is graded to be 3 . Grade 3 is termed as satisfactory level.
You have to get a minimum grade 3 in all of the section or in the pair of following section to pass the test.
  • Speaking (3) and writing (3)

  • Listening comprehension (3) and writing (3)

  • Reading comprehension (3) and speaking (3)
