Residence Permit/ Visa in Finland

Student Residence Permit The Student residence permit (B-status) application starts only when you are offered an admission to Finnish Universities or educational institutions. You can also get a permit/visa for studying Finnish Language(Degree Programme) at Helsinki University. Citizens of EU/EEA doesn't require residence permit. Following steps are to be followed for student RP. Student RP allows a 25hr/week working status. You can work full time during summer.
  • Application fee For first student RP €330(paper)- Online (€300). 
  • Acceptance letter/admission offer letter from School/Universities.
  • Fill in the form OLE-OP1 Carefully and print out.  Missing information or incomplete form often results in delay of processing time.
  • A Certificate of Health insurance which covers €30,000.
  • A clarification of Income , Financial Bank transaction . The income should support your expenses in Finland at an annual rate of €7000.
  • Previous Educational/work  Certificates.
  • Take all the original copies with you to embassy.
  • Submit your application along with necessary appendices.
  • If the decision is positive you will get your permit within a month, it may take longer time also.
  • You will be informed when your residence permit is ready
Remeber you can fill the form online , if you have Finnish bank id.  Fill in the form carefully, misleading of information will delay your visa  application. The extension of permit costs €158.
 Work permit (A-status) can be applied from Finland and abroad. A work permit allows you to work full time. Work permit after your graduation at Finnish Universities allows you to work independently in any field, as the visa is granted open. However, other work permit limits you to work at certain field. 
Application checklist:
  • First work permit Application fee €540 paper- Online(€450). 
  • Fill the form OLE-TY1  carefully.
  • Fill the form TEM-054 with your Employer. The boss need to fill the form.
  • Include your work contract, salary sheet 3mnths(if availaible)
  • Include your graduation certificate from Finland.(Not mandatory)
  • Take 2 pp sized photographs(Not older than 6 months)
  • Submit your document to Finnish Police/Embassy.
If you already are in Finland and applying after your studies, you just pay the normal permit extension fee of €158. 
Permanent Residence (PR)Basically you have to stay in Finland for more than 4 years in A status to apply for permanent residence card.

Finnish Citizenship You can apply for a Finnish Citizenship on the basis of family ties, biological parent, marriage, birthplace, or 5 years of continuous stay in Finland. Basically, people with Permanent residency go for a citizenship.

  • Fill this form KAN-1. The form is in Finnish.
  • Your identity(Previous Passport)
  • Finnish Language test- National Certificate of Language Proficiency Level 3
  • Income level/ means of livelihood/
