Snowcastle or LumiLinna , founded in 1996 is the biggest snow fort in the world. It lies in the north of Finland –Kemi (712km north from Helsinki), which attracts   hundreds of thousands of  visitors every winter. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year 2015, is a pride of joy to Finnish artistic creature. Sawfinland.com brings you some interesting facts about SnowCastle - Kemi.
  1. The former mayor of Kemi, Mr Juhani Leino came up with SnowCastle idea in 1994, the idea circulated and henceforth the first snow-castle was built in the year 1996. The SnowCastle itself drew some 300,000 visitors in its opening year.
  2. Snow castle is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year 2015. A total of 60 workers are/will engage during the snowcastle exhibition period. The worker includes constructor, sculptors, electrician, hotel, and all other staffs on the premises. 
  3. The area of the Snowcastle is approximately around 5600m2 area, roughly equivalent to 2 football field. The area under the snowy roof including walls and rooms occupy 2100m2.  A total of 23000m3 of snow is used to build the castle, which is equivalent to 2200 truck loads.
  4. SNOW-RESTAURANT,  operating at a temperature of -5 holds roughly 200 customers’ seat. The restaurant serves snacks, hot/cold drinks, lunch-dinner, etc. The area is a non-smoking Zone. Snow restaurant can also be reserved privately. 
  5. The snow hotel which can accommodate around 48 persons is all made of snow at an operating temperature of -5. There are rooms for singles, doubles as well as bigger groups. Breakfasts are served inside warm castle lounge for guests.
  6. OLOKOLO , a warm accommodation inside snow castle walls is equipped with warm sleeping bags and soft lamb. 
  7. SnowChapel or a Snow church is growing popularity among the visitors. The chapel is open to all church groups which welcome wedding, christening and other church related functions. The chapel has 60 seats. 
  8. Castle Lounge:  located outside snowcastle offers dinners, meeting and small parties for about 70 persons.
