Polytechnics/Universities of Applied Sciences in Finland


A polytechnic is an old tag, it is now commonly known as ‘UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES’. A wide range of Bachelor and Master studies are offered annually. Polytechnics or University of applied sciences  are designed to prepare professional in response to labor market needs and conduct research & development which in particular leads to regional development.
There are 25 polytechnics in the Ministry of Education and Culture sector: four are run by local authorities, seven by municipal education consortia and 14 by private organizations. In addition there is Åland University of Applied Sciences in the self-governing Province of Åland and  Police College subordinate to the Ministry of the Interior.(Source: Ministry of Education, Finland).
